Discord implemented a major update on September 26, 2024. This update enhances app functionality, improves security, and improves the user experience.
The App Gets Even More Powerful!
- App Launcher Arrives on Desktop and Mobile!: You can now easily launch apps while chatting or on voice calls. Search thousands of apps from the App Launcher or browse curated collections.
- 4 New Activities Arrive!: New activities have been added for you to enjoy with friends, including “Arena Kingdoms”, “Echo Chess”, “Battletabs”, and “Magic Circle”.
- Edit Images Directly Within Chat!: Use apps to add captions and animation effects to images shared in chat. You can even make your friends’ photos dance using Viggle’s “Animate” command.
- Expanded Features for Developers!: Developers can now build, publish, and monetize their own activities on Discord. Anyone can discover and use these activities through the App Launcher.
Security and Privacy Also Enhanced
- End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) Introduced for Voice and Video Calls!: Voice and video calls in DMs, group DMs, server voice channels, and Go Live streams are now only accessible to those participating in the call.
- Easy and Secure Login with Passkeys!: You can now instantly sign in using your device’s biometric features (such as Face ID or Touch ID) without entering a password. Passkeys are stored on your device and are not accessible to anyone, including Discord.
Other Updates
- New Resources for Mastering Discord!: Videos and blog posts have been published on how to get the most out of Discord, including useful keybindings and message formatting.
- Street Fighter 6 Items and Quests Arrive!: New decorations and effects inspired by Ryu, Chun-Li, Akuma, and others have arrived in the shop. Also, by clearing the Street Fighter 6 quest, you can use the “Battle Field” decoration for free for two months.
- Significant Reduction in iOS Crashes!: The stability of the iOS app has been improved, reducing crashes by 84%.
